    In multiple jurisdictions, distributed resources planning (DRP) is identifying opportunities where concentrations of multiple, geographically-targeted distributed energy resources (DER) can prove fully cost-effective. Multiple regulatory actions are guiding these kinds of actions, including:

    • FERC and NERC actions to better coordinate and incorporate analysis of DER effects in transmission system planning and operations, and to enable analysis and implementation of cost-effective non-transmission alternatives;
    • State or utility grid modernization initiatives, including multiple states opening discussions about future utility business models more compatible with growth in DER markets; and,
    • Updates for distribution system planning and for better incorporating DER in utility integrated resource planning.

    This NRRI Webinar (and a forthcoming NRRI report) reviews case studies of some of the early successes in these efforts and explores the current thinking about how DER are changing regulated utilities.

    Moderator:  Tom Stanton, NRRI Principal Researcher, Energy and Environment
